Federal Move Could Undermine Murphy Clean-Energy Policies

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission recently ruled that a tariff that set prices for electricity suppliers was “unreasonable”. This action, which will help to drive down prices on non-renewable energy, counteracts recent efforts by the Murphy administration to promote clean energy. NJ SEED urges that the federal government take more steps to encourage use of alternative energy sources.

NJEDA unveils office to attract foreign businesses, investment

The NJ Economic Development Authority has created the Office of International Trade and Investment with the intent to encourage trade and foreign direct investment in NJ. It also hopes to make use of the diplomatic community that exists around the New York City metro area. NJ SEED applauds the NJEDA’s efforts to promote economic growth in NJ.

New Brunswick officials eye community solar program

New Brunswick officials have called for the city to be 100% reliant on renewable energy by 2035. Gov. Murphy’s efforts to establish Community Solar Pilot Programs will likely play a large role in allowing the city to achieve that goal. NJ SEED, while applauding efforts to seek renewable energy alternatives, is concerned that a mandated total abandonment of traditional energy sources may prove costly to consumers.

NJMEP awarded $250K from National Institute of Standards and Technology

The New Jersey Manufacturing Extension Program (NJMEP), a non-profit organization that offers specialized training to NJ manufacturers, has been awarded funding to support its apprenticeship and sales training programs. NJ SEED congratulates NJMEP on its award and appreciates its efforts to support and encourage manufacturing in New Jersey.

BPU orders utilities to do better job keeping lights on during big storms

In response to a directive from Gov. Murphy, the Board of Public Utilities has published a staff report that calls for improvements in the state’s four utilities’ pre-storm planning and preparation as well as post-storm restoration. NJ SEED applauds the Gov. and BPU for the report and looks forward to speedy implementation of its recommendations.
