NJ Transit approves contracts with outside vendors

NJ Transit directors voted Wednesday, May 09, 2018 to approve a $42.6 million contract with a Hoboken-based company –Hillside –to operate the Hudson County Local Bus Service from July 1 to June 25, 2021.The directors also voted to approve three other contracts regarding service: a $10.5 million contract with Baltimore-based Coach and Equipment Bus Sales to buy 146 minibuses; a $19.9 million contract with Waldwick-based DMR Construction Services to build the Hoboken Terminal House Power Repair project; and a $7.2 million contract with Bensalem, Pa.-based Bombardier Transit Corp. to overhaul 116-line converter modules. NJSEED is skeptical of NJ Transit continuing to contract out services. Although NJ SEED is a staunch supporter of private-public partnerships, NJ Transit must create a long term plan rather than sporadic multi-year contract deals for certain services.
